2022 Marvel Legends Haslab Project Announced With Ghost Rider Theme - But What Could It Be?

Jay Cochran - July 23, 2022
Yesterday during the 2022 SDCC Hasbro Marvel Legends panel, the folks at Hasbro teased us a clue for the new Haslab project that will be launching later this year on the Pulse website.

Based on Hasbro's teaser the next campaign will be for Marvel Legends and have something to do with Ghost Riders 50th Anniversary.

So what exactly could something Ghost Rider based entail? Usually something offered through Haslab is BIG and expensive which means something you wouldn't offer at general retail.

Of course as soon as the announcement was made yesterday, fans took to the Internet and started their speculation.

There have been multiple Ghost Riders over the years and each has had their own unique vehicle they drive. There is the original Johnny Blaze who has a more traditional looking motorcycle decked out in flames. Well I am not counting the old west version from 1967 that was originally called Ghost Rider and then renamed Phantom Rider. He rode a horse. If this campaign is really meant to celebrate the characters 50th Anniversary it would make sense the campaign would somehow incorporate Mr. Blaze. Hasbro has actually already done a Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider with bike that was released at general retail. The Blaze version got a live-action movie in 2007 that starred Nicholas Cage.

Then there is the 90s Danny Ketch Ghost Rider who for me is my go to Ghost Rider. He also rode a motorcycle but one I thought looked a lot cooler which the big Skull plated face on the front.

Finally we have the more modern Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider who switched things up and started driving a muscle car instead of a motorcycle. Reyes not only was in the comics but was featured in the MCU Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. series on ABC.

There actually have been a number of other Ghost Riders in the comics throughout the years including a Ghost Rider 2099 version and Cosmic Ghost Rider. Hasbro along with Blaze has already done a Marvel Legends version of the Cosmic One.

Now getting back to the fan-speculation, many seem to think the Reyes Ghost Rider is the most likely candidate to get the Haslab treatment simply because he drives a car, and cars are bigger vehicles than motorcycles. While that is a valid point, I think you could come up with something pretty elaborate for the motorcycles if you started incorporating things like lights and sounds. Of course I could even see Hasbro giving us our first Haslab multi-pack by doing all three Ghost Riders (Blaze, Ketch and Reyes).

I should note that besides the Johnny Blaze and Cosmic Ghost Rider already for Marvel Legends, I believe there will be another Ghost Rider soon released in the line that will come on a Retro Cardback and NOT include any vehicle. I don't know which version of Ghost Rider that will include and that is not yet officially confirmed, but I thought it was worth noting here.

Now like with all Haslab campaigns, this one will almost definitely include unlockable stretch goals which likely will contain at least 1 or 2 additional action figures. This to me is where things could get really interesting. Ghost Rider has has a number of nemesis he has faced over the years, but I feel the two that stick out the most to me are the devil Mephisto and his offspring Blackhart. Being these are two characters many fans have been asking Hasbro to bring to the Marvel Legends line that might prove difficult to get a general retail release for (due to their demonic natures), a Haslab campaign might be the perfect way to see them released. Toy Biz did do a Blackheart figure back in the day but Mephisto has never gotten the Marvel Legends treatment.

For now all we can do is speculate and wonder what the campaign will include, but my guess is that all will be revealed by PulseCon which takes place starting on September 30.

Until we get a real honest to god Marvel Legends Mephisto, classic (pink face or otherwise), all who refused to back this Haslab project will never be forgiven.

if people didn't want to buy it for whatever reason, then that is their choice. There is nothing unforgivable about it. Their money, their choice. It's not just about you. This was a poorly price haslab and people spoke with their money which is their right. You need to grow up and realize that it not just about you.

Honestly, I dont need anyones forgiveness because I dont owe any other collector the realization of their toy dreams. Not to mention, that I dont have the power to stand in your way. The Hellcharger offering came across to me as insulting and greedy and its my own values I answer to when I dont participate or when I speak up about how I feel. If any person was able to influence another not to by this product, I see that only as a reflection that the offering was substandard according to what the market could support. That just economics, baby. My life will be identical whether anyone forgives me for that or not. You need to rage and blame? You do you, my fellow fan.

Its Hasbro who should feel your ire; locking a figure thats been requested forever behind an absurd paywall.

Oh calm down. Yeah it sucks but blaming everyone won't make anything better

Sadly it's not surprising that this failed, there was so many things against it. The Price, the lack of universal appeal, the poor choice of tier figures, the early bird figure, etc. Still I'll wait for Lizard faced Mephisto and Marvel Woman

Excuse us for having common sense. 350 for a car that I can get the equivalent of for 50 or less? Yeah, no. Mephisto will come

If Hasbro was smart, they would release Mephisto and a skimpier Madeline Pryor as single card figure to recuperate some of that money

True. Despite what was said, I don't buy for a second that they can't release GQ or really, any figure they dang well choose. Especially since they barely deliver to brick and mortar in the first place, especially since they have Pulse, and especially now with windowless boxing? There's ust no excuse. Frankly, those exact figures not getting released is no loss, because we want the figures released in their classic forms. Refusing to make them now is just cutting off their nose to spite their face.

It is beyond all reason that you, I and anybody else, were completely free to buy the comics and statues these characters appeared in when we were kids, but now in the 21st century, are being told that they're too...whatever....to be sold in plastic action figure form, now that we're adults. I cannot even believe this is a discussion.

This is a good day. I hope the real lesson learned here for hasbo is that they need to seriously listen to their customer base.

Dwight said they can't release Goblin queen in anything more risque than the outfit she had for the Haslab. He didn't rule out one of her other outfits (more conservative), or another look for Mephisto for the future, but from what he told folks in interviews recently, it sounds like these exact figures are never coming out without the Haslab going forward.
