The paint was muddy, and darker, for "gritty realism" but the figures suffered from over production. They would never stand up, too stiff, or too loose, leading to a whole new toy market of plates and stands. I like a lot of the newer Legends series, and what McFarlane is doing with DC... but these retro figs, to me and my youth, are just pure and simple perfection.
It's definitely going backwards on innovation. It's not like Star Wars, Secret Wars, Super Powers and He-Man jumped out of the gate with 20 POA. They started with 5, were continually improved upon until they over shot during the Toybiz era then pulled the reigns in to reach the current level we enjoy today. Then hit the nostalgia button and regressed to 5.
We may be close to age if you grew up with toys with that level of articulation. I too have a soft spot for the era bit certainly not the product. I wanted more realistic movements and stances. To me, the 3.3/4" Marvel Universe line was the height of action figure greatness. Then Legends improved on their product and phased MU out. The last few MU waves were another example of going backwards, though the reason given was budgetary at that time.
The current 3 3/4 Legends while striking in colors and card design are a far cry from the greatness that the MU line in its heyday achieved. The only bone I can throw the current line is that they are getting the classic suits right. Something Legends continues to struggle with.
Nah, for me you never go backwards. Our youth was limited by the technology of the day and even as a kid I found it lacking. why take away features that improve the aesthetics, the presentation and overall feel? For me, you don't

I know SOME people actually buy this but I am hard pressed to find anyone who thinks this is a good use of resources over expanding the ML line or, better yet, reviving the ML/MU line. I know supply is a little harder to come by where you're at but here they can't even give that isht away. I had pics of just stacks and stacks of those 2 packs literally gathering cakes of dust on them but I hadda delete some space on my phone, but I sure as hell can easily go get some pics from my local WM. Thing is, by you logic Hasbro woulda axed Star Wars Black and all that Sequel Trilogy crap a long time ago and just stuck with the Vintage line, but no, they're still grinding and pushing it strong as ever. Hasbro has commitments and also benefits from taking a certain amount of losses per year while still remaining profitable. I think these things are just part of working the system.
Truth to all this. These things are warming hard at Target, Walmart, Gamestop, LCBS, FYE (this one is understandable, they charge $24.99 per figure!!!!!!!!!) ... they are aplenty everywhere.
I don't get the appeal. Why go backwards with innovation? Back in the 80s, 5 POA was all you could get until G.I.Joe revolutionized action figures with their "swivel arm action grip".. for me, I never looked back after this .. and never will.. Retro fans and nostalgia chasers can keep their Happy Meal toys
I love these, great packaging, great throwback quality, super good paint, bright colors, while also being a great update. They rings back all the feels of marvel and DC pocket heroes and Star Wars figs of the 70's and 80's. Good price too, I have doubles of most, but they look so good on the card I like keeping them unopened... but now that some are on clearance racks, I end up buying them again just so I can open 'em up and keep in my pocket, or display on my desk... like Hot Wheels cars.
Hey I'm just hoping they get the 6" Power Man right, and not put him on the Red Skull or Black Tom mold lol
I admit I like the vibrant colors used for these figures, but the lack of articulation, detail, and scale.....its a pass for me. One or two might not be so bad for office decorations I suppose.

true and their profits must be much higher because of the cheaper build therefore they keep them going

These would be soooooo dope if they were super-articulated. I know that this might defeat the purpose of these, and that there's already been a 3.75" line, but even so, I think the more toony and exaggerated style to these would be wicked with some extra joints. I'd be alllll over it, especially with that packaging. I find as I get older I prefer things lighter, fluffier (in terms if vibe) and rich in the old Saturday Morning Cartoon vibe (gawd I miss those days!)

Seriously, is this some kind of money laundering thing, cuz they barely sell, then they sit on the shelves for months on end and then they never go to clearance. They just disappear. I've looked at all the usual outlets and discount stores like Ross and TJ Maxx and Ollie's and never see them again. I would pay maybe $4 of $5 for them, which honestly is what they should cost anyway, if I did manage to find them on discount, but it never happens. They just go away. It's weird.
