Marvel Legends Squadron Supreme Hyperion and Doctor Spectrum 2-Pack Revealed

Jay Cochran - January 26, 2023
Hasbro today via CBR revealed a new Marvel Legends Squadron Supreme Hyperion and Doctor Spectrum 2-Pack. The set will be available for pre-order in Spring 2023 for $49.99. Sounds like this will be a general release or possibly a fan-channel exclusive since there is no mention of a specific store having it.

I sometimes wonder if the Controller body could work for Executioner or if that would just make him look too stocky. But if that wouldnt look good, then yea I also think the Caliban body is the way to go. Can see them using the baf Apocalypse torso to implement the shoulder pieces and then his shoulder straps could either plug into the holes that held Apocalypses neck armor or just lay right over them.

That's a good idea with the Apocalypse re-use. Sorta related, I have always thought the majority of the Stryfe buck would make a great base for Asgardian warriors, minus all the spikes, lol. Let's make some more figures happen over the rainbow bridge Hasbro!

Regarding your Skurge post, I feel we will get him soon. He has been on annual lists of most wanted figures for years. I have really thought a lot about what buck he would be best on. Your classic pic from the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe is exactly how he should look. Being part giant, massively muscled and standing 7'2" I believe, he should really get the Caliban buck to be done right. Will that make him taller than the Colossus and Ronan buck, yep, but they are undersized for their height anyway. so here's hoping we not only get him soon, but done right.

The Hercules mold fits, I mean Hercules being at 6'5" and Hyperion being at 6'4". I personally don't see a big enough change in height to warrant a new mold. In all reality, if you met 2 people in person. One at 6'5" and one at 6'4" both jacked, roughly at 500 lbs you wouldn't notice all that much of difference. As long as he is taller than then Captain America at 6'2". Also while I love the Thor figure, He is actually slightly tall in his action figure form, If you put him next to Omega Red who is suppose to be 6'11". Not every figure scales perfectly, as long as they scale close, I'm pretty happy.

I hear what you're saying. And it's splitting hairs at this point, but having collected MLs since the beginning, scale has always been a sore point for me. I'm sure you're right and he will look 'close enough'. But I will await someone posting comparison pics to be completely satisfied he's not too big. Long shot but let's go hasbro!

Executioner - Thor enemy - Marvel Comics - Skurge - Early profile - Writeups.org

I think we'll see him at some point soon; Hasbro already has those legs tooled from the SDCC Bor figure.

Sweet! Gamestop's got them too, bro!

From what I can tell from the pictures, looks like Hyperion has the Thor/Hercules shoulders and upper arms... and also their height. Probably the Hercules legs used again, at least the thighs. Not sure I would have gone with their shoulders/bi-triceps, I don't recall ever seeing Hyperion drawn as big and brawny as them. I've always seen him drawn more in a Superman level of musculature... makes sense since that is who is copied from. I would like to see how tall he is compared to them. I was really happy Hercules was a hair shorter than the 60th Anniversary Thor - 6'5" versus 6'6". I'd like to think Hasbro made a real effort to accomplish that - giving them the benefit of the doubt here. So, Hyperion only being 6'4", I'm curious to see how he stacks up in a side-by-side comparison with those heroes. I'm already expecting him to be too tall. We will see.

Agreed, and especially about the cape. I'd recently come across an old Marvel Two-In-One issue (Project Pegasus Arc) where he did have double clasps, so that's who he's going to be on my shelf canon, lol.

Lol, totally! I don't mind the cartoony aesthetic on it's own, but I wish they'd stop injecting it sporadically into the line.

I recall both Mar Vel and Rage from the Abomination (Video game version) looked very cartoony as well. It was off putting as even though they are comic book characters in action figure form they still came off as overtly cartoony.

Weird since you know... 95% of the other comic characters had more realism.

Ah well, neither of those were a deal breaker and Hyperion won't be either.. but from a aesthetics POV, it looks off

Yeah I thought they would go with a smaller, hand-held prism that was molded to the hand....fewer chances of losing it that way. Also prefer the cape clasped to one shoulder instead of both, giving it that Captain Marvel vibe...still, I've wanted the Dr. Spectrum for a LONG time and its nice to see at least one of my requests making it into reality.

I was just about to post that Hyperion was giving me Mr Incedible vibes.

Either that of Ed McGuiness -esq since there is that Superman connection

Uuuugh, that Nighthawk is sooooo bad.

As far as the set, it is what it is. It's a better Hyperion, maybe much better and Doctor Spectrum is no more than he needs to be. His design isn't all that complicated. Like many older designs he's more or less a naked body with lines and colors. I really don't hate the Bucky Cap mold like many do. Personally I think it has aged well and for a mold that has no butterflies it is remarkably poseable. The loose prism is a problem but I probably wouldn't pose him holding it anyway. Bag it, tag it. wait for the next 2 pack.
