The New Marvel Legends West Coast Avengers Boxset Up For Pre-Order - Plus Other WCA Based Figures To Consider

Jay Cochran - May 25, 2023
Yesterday we told you about the newly announced Amazon exclusive Marvel Legends West Coast Avengers Boxset from Hasbro which is now available for pre-order on the Amazon website for $124.99. This set includes Hank Pym and Classic Mockingbird which are being released for the first time in the line along with slightly modified re-releases of Silver Centurion Iron Man, Tigra and Spider-Woman.

From what I can tell the only difference between this Tigra and the most recent one Hasbro released is the orange on the skin has been toned down. The previous Tigra came with two headsculpts where this one only comes with the more angry looking one.

The Julia Carpenter version of Spider-Woman was last released in the MCU Molten Man BAF wave. This new version has a new headsculpt and comes with closed fisted hands that were not included with the original figure. The original figure did have an extra hand with a web shooting out of it that is not included here.

The Silver Centurion Iron Man was previously released as a Walgreens exclusive. This new version has white on the arms and legs as opposed to silver and the eyes on the helmet are blacked out. The shoulder pads look like they may have also been slightly modified to give it a more comic accurate look than that of the Walgreens one. This Walgreens one had a few more replusor type effects included, but you do get the standard versions with this new figure.

For those who are looking to round out their West Coast Avengers team we would also recommend you check out these figures which are still available as well:

The recently announced Hawkeye with Sky-Cycle. Hawkeye was a founding team member and for most of the time the team's leader. While Hawkeye has been released multiple times in the line over the years, this is the newest version and you also get the cool Sky-Cycle which was also featured in several issues of West Coast Avengers.

Classic Wonder Man which is available now. This version of Wonder Man was featured in the original 4-issue WCA mini-series. Granted he wore his traditional black and red outfit more in the series which Hasbro has done a version of, but that is an older released figure and you will likely have to go to the secondary market to pick that one up if you don't have it already.

If you want a more classic looking Iron Man figure for the team then we would recommend getting the Tony Stark (A.I.) figure which was released in the Mr. Hyde BAF wave. While there have been other Iron Man figures released by Hasbro in the Marvel Legends line over the years that would work for this team, the AI one has that classic yellow and gold look that fits the comics and is still available at a reasonable price. When WCA first started, it was actually James Rhodes under the helmet and not Tony Stark who at the time was wearing the classic yellow and gold armor. Later on Stark resumed the role of Iron Man and was also part of the team.

So that rounds out the original team members, however since this new boxset also features Spider-Woman who didn't join the team until issue #70, we also recommend checking out these figures. Note the art on the packaging for this new boxset is NOT comic book accurate. It says issue #60 on it but the artwork is actually loosely based on issue #1 Vol 2 of the series. They replaced Wonder Man with Spider-Woman and Hawkeye with Hank Pym.

Pym who at the time had retired from the super hero life had been around off and on pretty early on in WCA, but didn't really officially join the team and start wearing the red jumpsuit until around issue #20. He still didn't want to resume any of his previous super hero identities such as Ant-Man, Giant Man or Yellowjacket which is why he wore the jumpsuit as opposed to a traditional super hero costume.

Anyway getting back to the other figure recommendations for the team, I recommend the newest USAgent figure Hasbro released. Walker was originally forced on the team by the government in issue #44. He and Hawkeye didn't always see things eye-to-eye.

Scarlet Witch and White Vision. The newest White Vision figure Hasbro released on a Toy Biz Retro cardback is currently available on Amazon for $15.72. These two played a significant role on the team during the VisionQuest storyline that began in issue #42 and explains why Vision turned white for a time.

This was my favorite set for the year just behind the Wolverine set. Every figure was an improvement on the previous one except for that frustrating Iron Man. The color was more comic accurate but they could have and should have improved that stupid neck articulation situation.

Anyone that was on the fence about this, I was presently surprised by how much I liked every figure in this set. This price is definitely worth it now.

I ended up being able to wait until now. I picked up two sets and can't wait to get them!

I know that everyone's focus is on Prime Day at Amazon, but was just going to drop a mention that there are some decent deals on Kids Warehouse right now also. I don't go out there too often, but saw some decent prices for Marvel stuff. Plus they have a promo with $5 off $50 or $10 off $100. It's mostly stuff that we've seen on clearance before, but still some good stuff at nice prices. Lots of Legends around $10, including some potential army builder and/or generic types.

Originally was only going to pick this set up on discount but I'm slowly being swayed to buy it now lol. After watching JayC's review I never would have realized that Hasbro altered the Silver Centurion's shoulder pads to stick out a little further.

I'm dubious but just got an email updating delivery to Aug 10....

I also had to change my card and they haven't charged for it yet (though that might be more the fact that it's a Bank Holiday over here in Ireland) but I still have it set for Aug 21 delivery date.

Oddly enough my set has already been delivered and I am really pleased with the set. I'm really happy with the body models they used and there is no Kate body in sight. The Mockingbird body seems to be the Psylocke body which I really like in spite of the larger upper thigh gaps. But this is a far better looking model for the more athletic females than the Kate model. Spider-Julia is thankfully using the Shriek model now but I will be swapping the head portrait out from the older figure. The Pym figure looks a little larger but he is the best Pym to date. The head sculpt is exceptional. Tigra's colors are much better but I must admit I wish she was on a buffer body mold. To me as a feline character with great strength and agility she should look the part. But again it is better than the previous and at least they didn't try to put her in a full bodysuit. The ugly duckling of the crew is Iron Man. The color switch from silver to white is nonsensical but that seems to be the only change. I really was hoping they'd take the opportunity to fix the entire head and neck issue. It can be done. Not only have many people done it on Youtube and other socials but the Marvel Select team didn't seem to be plagued with the same restrictions that the Hasbro team sights as reasoning even though MS is clearly the inferior brand.

Hmmmm.... I changed my payment method for this set and it no longer says arriving tomorrow. Instead it reads they will email me when they have an expected delivery date.

Did somehow changing which credit card I'm using make me lose my early delivery? Weird.

But also, I've got a other set ordered for a friend that still reads that the set will be delivered before 10 tomorrow. Even though it still hadn't been charged? The heck is going on with Amazon these days?!?

I don't think it has anything to do with your payment change. I originally was supposed to receive this today also but I had to approve a delay today and I didn't make any change. There is no updated estimated delivery date available. What is weird about that is that I know of people who already received it over the last few days. It's possible that Amazon ran out of stock, found what they had in the warehouse was damaged or Hasbro asked them to hold until closer to original expected release date. It could be just about anything. Who knows, really? I'm disappointed because I was looking forward to getting these today.
