Yesterday we told you about the newly announced
Amazon exclusive Marvel Legends West Coast Avengers Boxset from
Hasbro which is now available for pre-order on the
Amazon website for $124.99. This set includes
Hank Pym and
Classic Mockingbird which are being released for the first time in the line along with slightly modified re-releases of
Silver Centurion Iron Man, Tigra and
Spider-Woman.
From what I can tell the only difference between this
Tigra and the most recent one
Hasbro released is the orange on the skin has been toned down. The previous
Tigra came with two headsculpts where this one only comes with the more angry looking one.
The
Julia Carpenter version of Spider-Woman was last released in the
MCU Molten Man BAF wave. This new version has a new headsculpt and comes with closed fisted hands that were not included with the original figure. The original figure did have an extra hand with a web shooting out of it that is not included here.
The
Silver Centurion Iron Man was previously released as a
Walgreens exclusive. This new version has white on the arms and legs as opposed to silver and the eyes on the helmet are blacked out. The shoulder pads look like they may have also been slightly modified to give it a more comic accurate look than that of the Walgreens one. This Walgreens one had a few more replusor type effects included, but you do get the standard versions with this new figure.
For those who are looking to round out their
West Coast Avengers team we would also recommend you check out these figures which are still available as well:
The recently announced
Hawkeye with Sky-Cycle. Hawkeye was a founding team member and for most of the time the team's leader. While
Hawkeye has been released multiple times in the line over the years, this is the newest version and you also get the cool
Sky-Cycle which was also featured in several issues of
West Coast Avengers.
Classic Wonder Man which is available now. This version of
Wonder Man was featured in the original 4-issue WCA mini-series. Granted he wore his traditional black and red outfit more in the series which Hasbro has done a version of, but that is an older released figure and you will likely have to go to the secondary market to pick that one up if you don't have it already.
If you want a more classic looking
Iron Man figure for the team then we would recommend getting the
Tony Stark (A.I.) figure which was released in the
Mr. Hyde BAF wave. While there have been other
Iron Man figures released by
Hasbro in the
Marvel Legends line over the years that would work for this team, the AI one has that classic yellow and gold look that fits the comics and is still available at a reasonable price. When WCA first started, it was actually
James Rhodes under the helmet and not
Tony Stark who at the time was wearing the classic yellow and gold armor. Later on
Stark resumed the role of
Iron Man and was also part of the team.
So that rounds out the original team members, however since this new boxset also features
Spider-Woman who didn't join the team until
issue #70, we also recommend checking out these figures. Note the art on the packaging for this new boxset is
NOT comic book accurate. It says issue #60 on it but the artwork is actually loosely based on issue #1 Vol 2 of the series. They replaced
Wonder Man with
Spider-Woman and
Hawkeye with
Hank Pym.
Pym who at the time had retired from the super hero life had been around off and on pretty early on in WCA, but didn't really officially join the team and start wearing the red jumpsuit until around
issue #20. He still didn't want to resume any of his previous super hero identities such as
Ant-Man, Giant Man or
Yellowjacket which is why he wore the jumpsuit as opposed to a traditional super hero costume.
Anyway getting back to the other figure recommendations for the team, I recommend the newest
USAgent figure
Hasbro released.
Walker was originally forced on the team by the government in
issue #44. He and
Hawkeye didn't always see things eye-to-eye.
Scarlet Witch and
White Vision. The newest White Vision figure Hasbro released on a Toy Biz Retro cardback is currently available on Amazon for
$15.72. These two played a significant role on the team during the
VisionQuest storyline that began in
issue #42 and explains why
Vision turned white for a time.
