Good points. My concern isn't that the movie bombs will hurt Sony, but that enough of them can hurt the super power genre in general. For a VERY long time superheroes were considered "silly" and "kid stuff" by the movie industry. As a result, almost nothing ever got to screen and when it did, it was cheaply made, poorly written. Most directors and actors wouldn't even consider being involved in such projects, for fear it could damage their reputations. Worthwhile writers and scripts aren't going pitch up, because they know beforehand that no producer would ever pony up the money needed to carry out their vision. And toy companies aren't going to risk doing anything except the staples ( Spider-Man, Bat Man, Superman).

I had to watch this trailer again, just because I'm still floored by how stupid I thought it was the first time, I disliked it even more the second time around, this has fail written all over it, I hope this is a good movie, but my hopes are low, and if it fails like I think it likely will, I think Sony should toss in the towel with these rando marvel movies that are so unneeded.
why did this have to be a thing? I get it money, but when yer movie makes morbius look rad, you got a pit yer digging and the money is falling into it, don't buy a cow if it ain't gonna produce milk, ya know.
The problem is . . . we're talking about Sony.
Regardless of how much this project cost or how much that movie bombed, at the end of the day, financially, Sony Pictures is doing fine. (Possibly not GREAT, but just fine at least, maybe even good.) Putting aside the fact that they are attached to one of the most successful multimedia hardware brands on the planet (and whether or not Sony Pictures and Sony Electronics are "officially" related in a business context, no matter how separate they are, there is GOING to be financial overlap, one side WILL help sustain the other on occasion), they ALSO have their incredibly lucrative deal with Marvel to prop up their financials, they have their legit successful animation brand (the Spider-Verse movies aren't just the best animated movies ever made, they may be among the best ANY films in history, and Hotel Transylvania is an unqualified - if somewhat baffling - success on its own), they have a number of lucrative franchises (Ghostbusters was a big hit, and never forget they have their stake in James Bond, and the equally baffling success of the Resident Evil franchise . . . though we'll see how long THAT lasts), and THAT'S not even counting all the merchandising money they make off the back end of these projects (which, as Yogurt will remind you, is where the REAL money from the movie is made).
They keep funding these awful superhero side projects because the bomb doesn't REALLY hurt them in the long run. They have other revenue streams. And as long as their contract allows them to cling to Spider-Man for dear life, they will NEVER throw in the towel, and their other moderate successes will let them take stupid risks and make dumb decisions. They can afford it.
Which is sad, I want Marvel to have Spidey back as much as anyone. But realistically, there's NO REASON for that to happen. Sony simply isn't and likely never will be desperate enough to need to do that.

See, this seems like a cool concept for a movie if this was gonna be just a standalone film about a crime lord's son who got animal powers and is now hunting down his father's organization. At least that's what I got from the trailer. It seems better than both Morbius and Venom in terms of how the story could eventually go, this is a prequel basically, pre-Spider-Man, which could be interesting, whereas Venom and Morbius both happened in the Spider-Man era timeframe for both those characters and didn't feature him. If they played this right (which they won't), we could have had a future Spider-Man movie, maybe even with Garfield, where the future version of Kraven fights him. I'm not even that mad about the change in character, I'm missing the accent for sure but Spectacular and other media have done the whole animal powers thing for him, so I don't really mind it. I just wish there was a hope for these guys to interact with Spider-Man. Seems like that shouldn't be too much to ask for a Spider-Man universe but here we are.

Nope.
This was a big nope right off the bat since it's Sony, but I heard about the R rating and had a little glimmer.
Yeah...if he controls animals then the whole "hunter" thing goes out the window. You don't need to hunt the animal if all you have to do is call it to come up to you.
So not so much Kraven the Hunter, as Kraven the Doordash delivery.
They didn't put a lot of thought into this, it seems....
Sony are the Ubisoft of the movie industry

I must say ATJ looks a lot more Kickass as Kraven than I expected but nothing else in the trailer gives me any faith that it's going to be any better than I ever thought it would be from the start. Morbius better look out because this is coming for his title.
Yeah no that was trash
this is Morbius part 2, but worse, how is this even Kraven...I can't. Sony are a bunch of lames.
