Outsiders - November 15, 2023
According to sources, there are ongoing discussions for three-time Emmy nominee Pedro Pascal to portray Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic, the leader of the renowned superhero team, in Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four. While a deal has not been finalized yet, insiders reveal that the negotiations are progressing positively and scheduling details are being ironed out. Understood. At the same time, I've heard this view before- that they're dated and from the 60s. But all of the lynchpins of the Marvel universe were from the 60s. Its not like Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Avengers, Daredevil etc. all came out decades after the Fantastic Four; they all came out in '61-'64. So it shouldn't matter. If the FF is "dated" then the others would be too.

As far as them all being white, again, that's true of nearly all the comics that were published during the early 60s (not excusing it but that's what happened). In this case, a brilliant scientist, his girlfriend, her kid brother, and the scientist's astronaut best friend. Not unusual that this very small circle, this family, would be one color. Now, its true that Marvel comics in particular made some stabs in race and culture diversifying, and absolutely should have gone way further than they did. Far as movies go, there's no reason why a supporting cast shouldn't reflect the society we live in; Dr. Richards relies heavily upon the scientific community, the government -military complex, etc. I could easily see him having allies and rivals of all races, that would flesh out the story, not to mention the political implications of civilian space flight and superhuman citizens. I cannot wait to see how they all react when Mr. Fantastic opens the Negative Zone and Annihilus rips out....

One thing they have going for them now that they're in the MCU, and appearing at this time instead of at the very beginning, is that many of those oversights and omissions can now be fixed. That, along with going the Kirby route as you said, should be the ticket.

Mr.Fantastic- Anson Mount

Invisible Woman- Kaley Cuco

The Human Torch- Montana Jordan

The Thing- Jared Keeso

Jay Tavare- Wyatt Wingfoot

Charles Parnell, new character, chief doctor, scientist, General or CIA/SHIELD handler

NO DOCTOR DOOM IN THE FIRST MOVIE. Set him up for the sequel.

As long as whoever they cast does a good job. I just think there were better actors for the role than PP no matter how hot his stock is right now.

And I so agree with you about Kaley Cuoco as Sue. She has the look. She has the personality and she's just downright adorable. And I also think she would be one heck of a live action Harley Quinn. She already does a pretty bang up job on the animated series and her strong athletic build is just made for a BA like Harley. And freaking Georgey as the smart mouth cocky Johnny Storm is genius. I don't like Anson as Reed. Somehow I'll always just never get past his coma inducing portrayal of Blackagard Boltagon. LOL! Might I suggest a Joseph Gordon Levitt might make a much better Reed? And sill be young enough to portray him for many years. Also I think Jared Keeso is a little to dreamy to be Thing. Maybe this would be a time to bring on a wrestler with acting experience like John Cena into the MCU. Jay Tavare is spot on as well.

Well SOME people may have more or less accepted him, but that's not all and certainly doesn't mean there are better fits out there. I think Gwilym Lee would be great. Most may not have heard of him but he did a turn on the UK series Midsomer Murders.

What makes me concerned is supposed possibility of Adam Driver, Matt Smith, Jake Gyllenhaal and others before not liking the script, what is so terrible in it that they find it unacceptable? Of course it could be other reasons such as pay being small for that caliber of the movie. So far it seems like they should have just stuck with John Krasinski, he was never my first choice candidate but he suits Reed well and people more or less accepted him thanks to DS: MOM.

I mean, I like him... but I'm not sold on him as Richards. I'm not sure who I'd have play the FF now, most of my casting choices have already been cast in another role or grown out of what I imagine could be Human Torch at the beginning.

Well isn't the fact that they had to debunk it and run at least a bit of damage control at all mean the rumor existed and probably had at least a bit of truth to it? Yes I also agree Grace Randolph is human garbage but she is also seems to be the first person to be blamed for most rumors they seek to squash in the entertainment industry so she's just the easiest target. And I'm sure she's fine with it just as any attention seeker should be. Of course Google also does a great job of sheltering the appointed ones so it's going to be a bit harder to get through the censors there but I haven't used Google or actually any other heavily censored search engine in years so I might have a slightly skewed perspective of what other people are allowed to see. I must stress again I have no problem with PP as far as his ability to pull off the part. I only speak in concern with the longevity of the project. In today's MCU what were to happen if he left the project after one movie? Would they do something completely sane and logical like just replace him like they with Rhodie or Ross or would they do something unreasonable like with Black Panther and act like there was literally no one else on the planet that could fill the role of T'Challa and just flip to another completely different character?

The fact that it had to be debunked meant that it got enough traction online, where things spread rapidly, that people began asking about it...some of them for clicks of their own. In this case there's substantial evidence that it's not true and apparently no real evidence that it is-just one person saying something seemingly without merit, watching as people share it and hoping they click on her Youtube page for more sensational BS.Anyway, this is derailing the thread a bit. No one is saying you have to like Pedro Pascal personally. No one is even saying you can't continue to believe this rumor about him, despite the rather obvious lack of evidence. You clearly want this rumor to be true, and that's fine. Belive what you want.I will remind you, however, that the purpose of this site is to share and discuss news (news that has been vetted by folks like JayC and Outsiders) and not gossip and baseless rumors. At this point, I suggest you drop the subject.

I can't find the episode of Bill Burr's podcast where he talked about this right now, but I remember him debunking it, too.The rumor about him insisting his face be seen in season 2 seems to be the full extent of his so called "diva" antics, and like Tarot, I'm curious as to where you specifically read that, because an internet deep dive on my part didn't turn up anything on any legitimate entertainment news site like Variety, Vanity Fair, THR, Deadline, etc. I did, however, find a some youtubers and redditors perpetuating the rumor, which appears to have originated with Grace Randolph, who is notorious for making up and spreading sensational bull**** in order get clicks/views and is living proof that many rumors come from no point of experience at all.

I haven't liked the casting of any of the FF movies to date. I think they either trip up on the looks or the portrayal of the characters. I'm picky......sue ( no, not THAT Sue ;)) me.Reed is supposed to be this intense guy, but he loves his family to the point that he can be dragged away from the intensity, but only for a while. Sue is the darling of the family and the most sensible. She's the most grounded--and her moniker " the Invisible Woman" isn't a slam on her, it's a warning ABOUT her. She's the unexpected x-factor of the team, the one you (literally) don't see coming.Johnny is the one trying to compensate--------that's why he's the jokester. He knows he's never going to be as smart as Reed, cannot muster the good sense of his sis, so he plays the little brother. His immaturity is more of a shield than anything---he's nothing without his family. In a way, he's the one who fits in the least, not Ben.Ben........is the tragedy. He had everything, and lost everything on in one go. He's the brave face, and in some ways even more of a "stoic" than Reed, because he hides his terrible sense of loss and pain underneath his skin. His anger is out there on the surface--but that's a deflection. He's like being fully-abled, but deeply disabled. No, those are my interpretations........and I don't think anyone cast has really caught on to those traits. The dynamic in a ensemble is to form a singular, despite being a group--each separate person bringing something distinct to create a whole. Kirk/Spock/McCoy is a good example of this, it's why they remain iconic together. The FF are iconic as the four, they just need the right chemistry with the right actors to realize it.

Understood. And I'd implore and encourage another direction. I do NOT want what i said to be a springboard for something negative.

Pedro is amazing, he is literally in everything these days. But damn if Krasinski didnt look like he stepped out of an FF comic. Plus he felt like Reed. (That was a weird thing to write). I don't get the hate for Krasinski's take.

I agree they haven't cracked the formula for making the FF films as incredible as the comics have. I was a fan of the Alba/ Evans films as they got the dynamic right but the stories we pretty weak. Never saw the Miles Teller version and never will. Hate that guy. Plus what did they do to the poor Thing?!?! Guess they took it upon themselves to settle that famous argument from Mall Rats.

Plus honestly, the cast is the least of the MCUs problems. Give us a story that brings the magic back and the rest will take care of itself.
