Steve Lightfoot Enlisted As Co-Showrunner For Spider-Man Noir Series At Amazon

Outsiders - December 04, 2023
Steve Lightfoot has been brought on board as co-showrunner for the upcoming live-action series based on Spider-Man Noir at Amazon, according to exclusive information obtained by Variety. Joining him as co-showrunner and executive producer is Oren Uziel, who is also the writer for the project.

Set in 1930s New York City, the untitled series will revolve around an older and more experienced superhero. It is worth noting that this show will have its unique universe and will not feature Peter Parker as the main character, as confirmed by a source familiar with the project.

Lightfoot has previous experience in the Marvel world, having worked on the "The Punisher" Netflix series as a showrunner. This series, starring Jon Bernthal, had a successful run of two seasons before Disney decided to bring all Marvel content onto their streaming platforms.

The Spider-Man Noir show is another project based on Marvel characters that is being developed at Amazon, which is controlled by Sony. Amazon has already announced the series "Silk: Spider Society" from showrunner Angela Kang, and there are several other Marvel shows in the pipeline. It is currently unknown which other Marvel characters will be featured in these Amazon shows, but Sony has control over more than 900 characters associated with the Spider-Man franchise.

Uziel, along with producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," and former Sony boss Amy Pascal, have developed the show and serve as executive producers. Pascal is executive producing through Pascal Pictures, while Sony Pictures Television is the studio behind the project. Lord and Miller are currently under an overall deal with Sony.

Amazon has been on a pretty hot streak with their superhero content lately. I hope this doesn't break the trend. I know variants and alternate versions of massively popular characters are fun to explore once in a while but when you take a character and eliminate or change specific things that made them popular in the first place you're just actually doing a different character with a derivative name. Even in the comics they're only relegated to secondary or enhancement character roles. They rarely are able to carry a comic themselves. Possibly a limited series. While I don't think the Punisher was a terrible show it most definitely was not a superhero show. Even though he certainly has his fans I don't expect a not Spider-Man in a Punisher type setting is going to be all that appealing to the masses. But of course that's just my opinion.

Oh, fun. The Punisher series was terrible.

Oh they are still doing this, I woulda just thought they scrapped it like all of the other doofus things they plan and then nuke, anyways this might be the best idea they have had, but knowing Sony they will botch this with elegance, I have pretty much zero faith in what Sony does at this point, just some second rate money making riding on the coattails of Marvel Studios, case in point can't wait to have my eyes wrenched back like a scene in clockwork orange while I watch Kraven or Madame web, and pretend I like at least 5 minutes of the movie, while feeling like I'm being force fed wet tea biscuits.

This falls right into line with all the other dubious Spider-Man adjacent projects Sony has announced. Take a character with close ties to Spidey, then remove all elements of Spidey and ask fans to be excited by the news .

Eh..... no thanks

indeed yet no 616 Jessica Drew Spider-woman movie or TV show

I think people would be more interested in Spider-Gwen from the Spider-verse

You're probably on point here.

Sounds like it may be a project similar to the shows set in The Batman universe that were going to focus on Penguin and the Gotham City PD. I think it would be cool if Peter Parker did show up in this show and they can get Nick Cage to play him.

I'm a little confused as to whether this means that it's not going to be Noirverse Peter Parker but someone else or if they just mean it won't be the Peter Parker with whom most people are familiar. Knowing Sony, It could easily be the former.

Noirverse Ben Reilly

Oh no I know they are not, I just think it would be a cool gimmick if the show was, and looked like Sin City.

Also people watching Into the Spider-verse would expect it
