Just felt some of the things they've done to this character in absence of actually writing cool adventures is a shame. I still maintain I'd rather see a hero kick butt in a hero comic rather than reading a daytime soap opera drama in comic form. Just two different types of entertainment. One of them I'm not so fond of. The other one has its fans as well. If you weren't implying the last +10 years of Daredevil weren't beyond appalling and damaging you wouldn't have suggested that some of his classic creators would've "bowed out after seeing what's been done to the character." It doesn't feel like you're alluding to just "some of the things." As if anything else would cause something like that. I think the plausible deniability of "I didn't say those exact words verbatim" is better suited for a court (heh, speaking of Daredevil...) AndyL - 2024-03-25 @ 7:53 pm

Wait, no, that can't be right... you have to be alluding to something like the incomprehensible monstrosity of... [checks notes] a just-as-praised run by Chip Zdarsky between 2019-2023? I mean, lol, even Charles Soule's 2015-2018 run that is sandwiched between those two titans and wasn't as beloved is universally regarded as fine. Or did you say 15 years specifically so you could allude to Shadowland which happened in 2009-2010 as if that single story that's been mostly swept under the rug has enough weight to sully everything overwhelmingly positive that has come since 2011? Wow. Looking back at my own notes I don't believe I ever called any of it horrible. So after years of getting smacked around by average street thugs he's back to fighting demons and taking out entire gangs and even pre-neutered Punisher shows up again. I hear in #7 he's back to being good enough to take on Wolverine again. Not that I'm not happy to hear it but where has this DD been for like the last 10 years? I guess all those years of soul-searching just didn't sell the books like they expected them to.

There's always some other story or some other event that puts him at second fiddle. Right now amidst the so called reboot of X-Mania this just seems like an afterthought. Then again maybe some of those people you named may have bowed out after seeing what's been done to the character over the last 15 years or so. I mean, Romita has been doing covers. And I don't think Mazzuchelli does comics anymore, so I don't feel that's the case. I think Marvel just didn't wanna pay for A-List artists. Yeah, I mean, personally I didn't care for those runs, but I would not classify them as "horrible stuff" either. I just feel Marvel didn't try this time...or even don't try when it comes to anniversary specials. "Should we hire [insert A-list artist here] to draw this anniversary special?" "Nah, the Anniversary hoopla will sell the issue regardless of who's drawing it!" ADour - 2024-03-24 @ 10:30 pm
