Marvel Studios Fires 'X-Men '97' Creator Beau DeMayo

Outsiders - March 12, 2024
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Beau DeMayo, the head writer and executive producer of X-Men '97, the revival of the iconic '90s animated series by Marvel Animation on Disney+ has been fired by Marvel Studios.

DeMayo, a Marvel veteran who worked on the live-action series Moon Knight and early drafts of the delayed Blade movie, had already finished writing the scripts for both seasons 1 and 2 of the series and was to attend the Los Angeles premiere of the show scheduled for tomorrow, March 13. DeMayo's corporate email has been disabled, and the cast and crew were notified that he was no longer involved in the project. DeMayo's Instagram account, previously a platform for X-Men news, was also removed. No reason for the firing was given.

Like I said, this is a news site and not a gossip site. I'm locking this before things go further off the rails.

My husband followed him on X/Twitter trust that it was quite explicit.

It may have something to do with his OnlyFans account, allegedly. A lot of these companies have morals clauses and he may have violated that. It was pretty....explicit from what I'm told.

According to THR, his OnlyFans account was non-explicit. Speculation is one thing, but let's all try to avoid salacious rumors, okay? We're not a gossip site, we're a news site.

Probably better that he is out, then. I hope there isn't too much of that influence on the show.

Moon Knight was a terrible adaptation that failed to properly adapt the characters from page to screen So, I am glad that he is gone before he can ruin another Marvel adaptation.

This reeks of some kind of impropriety on DeMayo's part that hasn't hit the news yet. Disney's way more diplomatic about firings when it's just "creative differences" or they've gotten what they wanted out of them and are just cutting them loose.

YUP.In animation and studio circles.......a whole lot of mid-level sins get overlooked and even forgiven, stuff like being a jerk, or going over-budget etc. But stuff like sexual harassment or embezzlement is too grave a loss of face to survive (for long anyways) in a corporate environment. Resigning or being "retired" or "looking for a new, different role" are the easy ways out, being fired is damage control.

Makes one wonder if the X-Men '97 show is just going to end up being another overhyped pile of junk on the Disney+ heap.

I'd say Storm's haircut is a good indication that the show may not do well. I'm hoping it was DeMayo's decision to give her a mohawk. That was a poor creative choice in trying to create nostalgia for a beloved animated series that most of America grew up watching.

I want to say this is a good thing because Moon Knight was terrible and early drafts of Blade were so bad the lead star was on the verge of quitting. Makes one wonder if the X-Men '97 show is just going to end up being another overhyped pile of junk on the Disney+ heap. I still want it to be good but I'll hold out watching until initial reports come out.
